Finds And A Canadian Hero

Yet again this past Saturday morning the boyfriend got up to hit the garage sales and I rolled over and went back to sleep.  I didn't even go to the secondhand stores.  I'm going to have to snap out of this pattern.

I've got a small collection of honey pots going, it started with the double one and in the last couple of months I've found the other two.  A friend of mine has bee's and the honey is from her hives.

The Dahlia's from my garden are in a green depression glass vase I found at a garage sale early in the season.  The small custard dishes are also in depression glass and were found at a local secondhand store.  For some reason when I look at them I think of the time period when the t.v. show The Walton's would have taken place.

The orange Pyrex juice pitcher the boyfriend found for me at a flea market he's so sweet to pick things up I collect when I'm not with him.  The lemonade one I picked up at a garage sale a couple of weeks ago.

I love this sign it's at a local secondhand store they won't sell it to me but they let me take a picture, they like it too much to.

It's September so in British Columbia that means the Terry Fox run, this year is the 33rd run being held.  I doubt Betty Fox would believe that when she gave birth to Terry on July 28th 1958 at the age of 18 he would be diagnosed with bone cancer, his leg would be amputated above the knee, he would decided to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research, he would run from St. John New Foundland to Thunder Bay Ontario his run would come to a stop the cancer was back, he would pass away at 22 on June 28th 1981 and is a Canadian hero.
I believe Terry brought cancer to the fore front and the need to raise money for cancer research and with the Marathon Of Hope he did that.  Yesterday the 33rd run took place in British Columbia due to his family, friends, volunteers and the people who took part the run go's on each year.  This is no longer just a Canadian run over the years it has gone global.
I don't know about you but cancer has hit my family too many times but I believe without the research we would have had less time with them.  I also have a friend who just finished treatments and things are looking good.

Quotes:
" I don't feel that this is unfair.  That's the thing about cancer.  I'm not the only one, it happens all the time to people.  I'm not special.  This just intensifies what I did.  It gives it more meaning.  It'll inspire more people.  I just wish people would realised that anythings possible if you try; dreams are made possible if you try."
                                                                                                                                     Terry Fox

" When I started this run, I said that if we all gave one dollar, we'd have $22 million for cancer research, and I don't care man, there's no reason that isn't possible.  No reason!"
                                                                                             Terry Fox

He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother
The road is long
With many of winding turns
That leads us to who knows where
Who knows where
But I'm strong
Strong enough to carry him
He ain't heavy, he's my brother
His welfare is of my concern
No burden is he to bear
We'll get there
For I know
He would not encumber me
He ain't heavy, he's my brother
If I'm laden at all
I'm laden with sadness
That everyone's heart
Isn't filled with the gladness
Of love for one another
It's a long, long road
From which there is no return
While we're on the way to there
Why not share
And the load
Doesn't weigh me down at all
He ain't heavy he's my brother

My Memories And Others Memories

This past Saturday morning the boyfriend was up and out the door without me.  Bye honey.  You might ask what I was doing I was sleeping sleep was more important then the hunt.  When he got back we were off to the local secondhand stores.  We found a few things but my new planters won't make it into my blog till next Spring.  The following finds are from the past couple of months that I finally got the pictures done.

Lionsgate Bridge in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Old ship sailing along maybe in British Columbia's waters.

Early picture of a Indian village in Sechelt, British Columbia.  A few decades later I would spend my holidays at the family cabin on the beach in Sechelt.

The above pictures are not from my family collection but are someone Else's memories that ended up in a local secondhand store.  I totally missed the old album these pictures came in, luckily the boyfriend spotted it.  I love old photo's even if they're someone Else's memories.

Oh my gosh childhood flashback I remembered a family friend having a cookie jar like this one when I was a kid in the 70's.  I found it at the first garage sale we went to a couple of weeks ago.

About a month ago the boyfriend had only one flea market so when he saw a garage sale sign I'm sure the car made a beeline to it's target.  He found this 1958 promotional Pyrex oval divided casserole dish the pattern is Barbed Wire.  He was also over the moon since he got a good deal on a English fly fishing rod.

This Anne Tainter postcard is one of many I found awhile back.

This blue bubble paperweight was another good addition to my collection.

These Dahlia's are from my garden the color makes me think of Hawaiian Punch.

Some Of This Weeks Finds

In the past week I've had some unbelievable finds at the secondhand stores and the garage sales on Saturday.  I had time Sunday morning to get quite a few photo's since a family of racoons would not leave my yard so my yard work went on hold.

I saw these statues on the shelf at a local secondhand store as soon as I saw them they were in my basket.  I knew I was going to put them on either side of my white vase.

I arrived later in the day after garage saleing at a local secondhand store who had a good portion of their items on for half price and somehow this paperweight was still on the shelf waiting for me.  It's now in my collection.

The Dahlias are from my yard. I put a flower frog in a Dominion glass wide mouth canning jar.  I think it's a perfect fit.

Mocha and Coco are my boyfriend's cat's their photo's were taken while sitting on our pew in our front  entrance, angels they are not.  The Melmac bowls seen between them I picked up at the secondhand store as back up food dishes.

The 1st picture is of clear bottom nesting bowls, a Pyrex container with a lid in 1960's color and a one cup vintage Pyrex teapot minus the lid with the fleur de lis pattern.
This 2nd picture I believe is a Pyrex cake dish is flamingo pink when I found it; it was minus a lid which I later found at a secondhand store.
The 3rd picture is where the cake dish now sits on a shelf in my Hoosier.

This is a picture of my dad's cousin, I was surprised when I found it.  When I was born she was already middle aged so I would have never guessed this picture existed.

I took my picture of my Dahlias and decided to use picmonkeys Warhol setting to change the picture.  I liked how it turned out so I thought I would add it to this post.

Taking Time To Smell The Flowers

You know that saying stop and smell the roses that's what I want to do.  The last few weeks for some reason have felt very hectic.  It's going to be nice having a long weekend next weekend but of course I still have to get through one more week of work.

Even This Channel 22 ad from the November 1967 Chatelaine magazine has a model taking the time to smell the flowers.

These flowers are from around my yard this summer I love being outside and seeing them decorate my yard.

This dress is a blast from the past and has a flower pattern going on.

You can find alot  of these vintage wooden hangers in my closet there something I collect I like the markings on them because they tell a story.

I was at my friends house a couple of weeks ago and took a few pictures around her yard.  Her dog Lily is making her debut in this post.

Glass, Corning Ware, Plants And The P.N.E.

This post is all over the place it's not the first time and won't be the last.

This blue decanter is not one of my finds but the boyfriends late mother found this beauty.

This Corning Ware ad is from the November 1967 Chatelaine magazine.  You can see some of the pieces of the Cornflower pattern that I have in the picture below.

Along with the few pieces of Cornflower Corning Ware I own is a vintage apron on my mannequin.  The apron has a couple of flaws but reminds me of something Julia Childs would have worn.

This collage of the one Artichoke I grew reminds me of a thistle which I think makes a great picture.

This paperweight I was happy to find it's signed but no one I have asked can make out what it says.

A couple of Sundays ago the boyfriend and I went into Vancouver, British Columbia we met up with my cousin and his girlfriend.  We went to the first food cart event and the above pictures are of it and things around it.

The above picture is of a float which was in a past P.N.E. parade.  The P.N.E. stands for Pacific National Exhibition held around the last two weeks of August in Vancouver, British Columbia.  The fair began in 1910 and still runs today it was only closed from 1941 to 1947 during World War 2.  My grandfather was a carpenter at the P.N.E. until his retirement.  This year the fair runs from August 17th till September 02nd 2013.

A Mix Bag Of Finds And The Garden

The following finds have been found over the last few months and I'm finally getting around to posting them.

This is the first paperweight I've found with a person in it.  This child is cute which made me decide to add it to my collection.

This pink enamel flower brooch was a Kamloops, British Columbia find.  It's bright and stands out how could I leave it behind.

This picture is of my boyfriend watering the garden.  I came out the front door this is what I saw so I had to go get my camera to document this moment.

This collage is of our vegetable garden redo.  It's not finished but I know this is how far we're going to get this year.  These pictures are the before, during and after pictures of the project so far.

Since canning season is in full swing I thought I would post these clear and blue canning jars.  I also picked up the apron not long ago at a secondhand store.  The white bowl holding the light blue canning jar is Pyrex.

This white Pyrex bowl is in the above picture I thought it deserved a closer look.  The Pyrex lid it's sitting on has nothing to do with the bowl.

Happy B.C. Day 2013

Today is B.C. Day in British Columbia so I hope all B.C.er's have a great holiday.

I found this 12 cup Pyrex carafe quite awhile ago it is in a earlier post.  On our trip to Kamloops, British Columbia a few weeks ago I found this small Pyrex carafe in the above picture.  The milkglass coffee container was also in a previous post.  The coasters in the stand are a new find, they are marked British Columbia and have the Dogwood flower on them which is our Provincial flower.

I left my boyfriend at home sleeping Saturday morning and went for a pedicure and haircut then I decided to hit the local secondhand stores.  I found the chair in the above picture me an another lady spotted it at the same time but I was faster by a second so it came home with me.

This house design I found in Canada's July 1967 Chatelaine Magazine it's a Souvenir Centennial Issue.  I like finding vintage ad's this one was for Chatelaine Home Planning Book.  The above design is "Gustavo da roza's winning design of the Canadian Lumberman's Association contest."

This is a piece of art glass made by Chalet Canada.  I saw it at our local Salvation Army and when the price dropped I had to get it.

This pink Dahlia is from my yard.
