Canada Day 2015

Once again Canada Day is almost here.  On Wednesday, July 01st here in Canada we will be celebrating Canada turning 148 years old.  So most of this post has either a red & White theme or something that has to do with Canada.

 

I grabbed the Canada Keep Calm I Love You mug off the shelf at a local second hand store since it was perfect for this post.  The postcards of the Mounties is so Canadian. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police formed in 1873 it's title was shortened down to the RCMP in the 1920's. 

Then we have a dress mannequin sporting a vintage homemade polyester dress in red with white polka dots.

This red flower brooch by Coro was a second hand store find too.

And what can you ask for more for a Canada day collage then Canada's crest and Canada written across the bottom on a record cover.

I went looking for a red and white paperweight in my collection and found I do not have one in the almost 200 that I have, so to represent red and white I'm using these red and clear paperweights.

You may be wondering how this book fits into my Canada Day theme well it's the trailer and camping idea everyone was bailing out of town on Friday hitting the road to find their camping paradise.   I'm sure many will make a extra extra long weekend on the Monday, Tuesday side of Wednesday or the Thursday, Friday side.  I love the cover of this book with it's 50's look.

I love old pictures and these ones are from an album I bought a couple of months ago the above pictures are from someones trip here in British Columbia going up the Fraser Canyon up into the Cariboo.  I have many memories of doing this route with my family when I was a kid in the 1970's.

Some Facts About Canada:

We are the 2nd largest Country in land mass which is made up of 10 Provinces & 3 Territories.

Provinces: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland / Labrador.

Canadian Sport: HOCKEY and more HOCKEY

Canada's National Animal is the beaver.

And of course our neighbors to the South of us in the United States will be celebrating Independence Day on Saturday July 04th I thought I would add the flag picture from my husbands family collection and some red, white and blue with the paperweight.

A Mother's Day Post

I was all set to do another theme for this post when my husband said that next Sunday was mother's day so everything came to a halt Saturday night and I started replanning my post for today.  Know the theme you got it I'm sure is set around mother's day.  I hope everyone has a wonderful and special day next Sunday and Happy Mother's Day.

This Sherman brooch was supposed to be a Christmas gift from my wonderful husband which he forgot about and found a little while ago.  This happens quite often I usually receive Christmas gifts throughout the year.  Don't get me wrong I like getting gifts anytime I just find it amusing when he comes in from the garage with a Christmas gift months past Christmas.

The locket in the picture was my husbands mother's and inside when I opened it stored in it for safe keeping was this paper cut out of a child's art work which I thought was special and I thought was something my husband had done for her.

however he assures me it was not him.  His mother was a teacher so we think maybe a student might have done the cut out.

You may remember back a few posts ago I posted the blue jar above well I went down and unpacked the two other jars to show you the three I have found over time.

It's All About The Green

It's March 17th and St. Patrick's day is here, it seems weird since a few weeks ago we had snow here in British Columbia.  I was reading the other day in one of the blogs I follow though I can't remember which one that when you say the luck of the Irish your not meaning good luck but bad luck which is what I've been having at the second hand stores this past week.  I was bidding on a Sherman brooch in green and amber rhinestones which would have fitted in this post but the bidding went over my budget.  So this post is all about the green.

Back To The Hoosier For St. Patrick's Day

The Hoosier is holding green items Pyrex, Fire King, Glass and etc.

Whenever I see these dish towels with different countries names on them I think about people travelling and bringing them back for family and friends.

The Fire King mug  on the top left and right side is the same mug each side has a different saying.
The middle picture is a mid century modern tea set by Arklow made in the Republic of Ireland the pattern is Rhythm by Pat McEtheron.
The horses are made of green plastic and quite well made.

2nd My Finds / His Finds

My fiancé is always wanting me to post his fishing finds which is how I came up with My Finds / His Finds.  I think someone needs his own blog.

My Finds

I found this small vintage tablecloth which would fit on something the size of a end table.  The colors and design said buy me.

This is one of the larger bowls in the Vintage Tulip pattern of the Fire King bowl set.

I love these recipe cards and sometimes I wish it could be my motto.

The bag on the mannequin has actually been in my basement hanging on a beam holding the mounting clips for our outdoor Christmas lights.

Doesn't this bird tin make you think of Spring?  It says Made In England on the bottom.

This paperweight reminds me of water on the bottom a planet in the middle and snow above.

This is my blog so I get to put in more finds that's just how it goes.

His Finds

A couple of weeks ago we went to a garage sale while snow was falling (this was a first for me).  He found these two vintage fishing creels and he and the seller came to a agreed price. 

Hardy Sunbeam 10 wt. fly reel for Salmon fly fishing.  Made in England.

Hardy Silex centre pin reel from early 60's used for Steelhead fishing.  Made in England.
These two reels are his prized reels I happen to like the ones with the Celtic designs I shared before and I'm again showing you below.

He went to a garage sale last week and bought me a bag of broken costume jewelry because this Coro Necklace was in it and still intact.  He got the bag for $2.00, he did okay.  I also have a use for the broken jewelry it was a win win all around for me.

Wedding Nightmares

I had my first nightmare about the wedding the other night about of all things cutlery. 

Cutlery really, where did that come from?  What would Freud say?  Oh well I'm just going to go with the flow.

Valentines Day 2014

It's the Beetles who said "All You Need Is Love" it could be a great song to sum up Valentines day.  Since this coming Friday is Valentines day I thought it was time to do a Valentines day post.

I found this heart shaped paperweight (California Poppy) awhile back it's a Robert Held piece.  I decided to save posting it for this post.  I had a chance to buy another heart shaped paperweight by Held last week.  When will I learn! I left it behind and then went back a few days later to get it but of course it was gone.

This collage is of hearts, you have to have lots of hearts in a Valentines day collage. 
The top left picture is a heart shaped postcard. 
The middle picture are heart ornaments from Ikea, when I saw them I didn't think Valentines day but black history month which is also in February.
The right side picture is a costume jewelry piece, a heart shaped brooch by Coro.
The bottom picture is three tin hearts side by side.

This picture is of two shelves in the Hoosier decorated for Valentine day.  The pink and white mugs are Fire King and the other dishes are Pyrex.

Lucille Ball is such an icon I have posted other items of her in the past.  The following are some new pieces I have found.  The purse with her and Desi Arnaz I believe is a scene from I Love Lucy.  The next two pictures are of ad's from Life Magazine the first one she did for Summerettes shoes and the other one Phillip Morris cigarettes.

I also found this Whitman's chocolates ad with another icon Elizabeth Taylor,
it was also from Life Magazine.

Mercy released this song written by Jack Sigler Jr. on April 1969.

Plans for the Wedding:

When: October 2014

Where: Heritage Schoolhouse for ceremony and reception.

Food: Hired caterers.

Flowers: Vases full of different color Dahlias on tables.

Something old is taken care of.

January's Mish Mash Of Finds

Today is a mish mash of finds.  I have no theme just things that have been waiting to make it into a post or new items.

My fiancé found this piece of art glass two weeks ago at our local flea market it's a piece of Chalet glass.

I was fooling around with my new camera and decided to shoot a picture from the top looking down on this piece of glass.  I like how this picture turned out I might have to try it with my other pieces.

These are three additions to my honeypot collection. 
The top left honeypot has a glass base and the top is made of metal and the spoon came with it.
The top right honeypot is ceramic and did not come with a spoon.
The two bottom pictures are the same item.  This honeypot has a metal base with a glass inset and came with a honey wand ( I Know it's probably not called a honey wand but that's what I'm calling it).

This red Corvette is a 1957 model which yet again the nephew already has so no trade yet for my dad's Coca Cola model truck that he has and I've been trying to trade him another model car for.

I saw this I'm thinking it looks like a condiments holder but the glass holders look quite large.  The handle is what caught my eye my cousins fiancé collects things that have handles on them like this one  so I picked it up for her.

I'm a lava lamp fan I'm always on the look out for another one these are the four I have so far.  I can remember in the 70's my aunt had one I always wanted one so now I have four.
