It's A New Year & Back To The Hoosier

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and has been having a great New Year.  We had a good Christmas here and the New Year has been busy.  We're planning on putting our house up for sale in the Spring so we are trying to clear out junk, donating what we can and packing up what we need to put into storage.

I bought myself a kaleidoscope, the above picture I took through the small hole at the top which took awhile to get. I've always liked kaleidoscopes.

The Hoosier has in it my things and my husbands fishing stuff.
On the top shelf are two Fire King dishes given to me by a friend.
The second shelf has a Scottish theme since Robbie Burns day is coming up this month.
The third shelf is fishing related which is my husbands stuff he always wants me to post.
The two Hardy reels are his favorite ones he's always on the hunt for Hardy equipment.

This dish towel came as part of a wedding gift I decided to use it as a curtain on my back door.

This is a unsigned brooch my husband found for me a couple of months ago.  It reminds me of a snowflake.

This mid century modern lamp I won in a silent auction.  I ended up going a little over my limit but I think it was well worth it.

This Hair album soundtrack I found at one of my favorite second hand stores.
Thank you for taking the time to visit.

A Beautiful Day Outside

This past week has been quite busy we've been preparing for a garage sale we had this past Saturday.  We were up and out setting up by 5:30 a.m. it was a lovely sunny day and we got rid of a lot of stuff.  The big seller was the fiancés fishing gear he was selling pieces he had upgraded.  We made a nice profit to put towards our honeymoon.

Garage Sale

I really didn't get a chance to take pictures after we set up as our first customer showed up an hour and half early.  These pictures are of some of the things that didn't sell.

Around The Yard

The above pictures are from around the yard, some family collection photo's and garden art.  You may notice two of the pictures from the family collection have been posted before but I had to show the fiancés watering technique one more time.  The photograph of the little girl in the yard by a wooden chair is being posted for the first time.

Back To the Hoosier

The Back To The Hoosier pictures did not turn out as well as I would have liked so I apologise for these pictures.
You never know what theme will show up in my Hoosier this time it's more of a look back at childhood.

A Canadian Moment

I would like to highlight this one book in the Hoosier this time about Wop May who was a Canadian pilot who has an impressive aviation history but I'm just going to mention two events he's know for.

In the first event it's kind of fitting the book is beside a model plane like the one the Red Baron would have been flying as it was Wop he was chasing the day he was shot down and killed in World War 1.
Manfred Albrecht Freiherr von Richthofen (The Red Baron) was killed April 21, 1918.

The second event happened in January 1929 when a Diphtheria Epidemic broke out in Fort Vermilion in Northern Alberta.  They needed a way to have to deliver the anti - toxin.  Wop and Vic Horner agreed to deliver the anti - toxin but the only plane available was a Avro Avian which was a light open cockpit plane with no heating.  These men would be flying in temperatures of -30 Celsius weather can you say human Popsicles.  They had setbacks but they flew the 912 Kilometre mission and because of these men`s bravery only one person was lost to the epidemic.  This event has gone down in history as "The Happy New Year Mission".

If your interested in knowing more information on this event and others that make up Wop May`s life I encourage you to look him up.

Thanks for taking the time to stop by.

Back To The Hoosier For May

These past couple of weeks I've been suffering through a cold and allergies.  I haven't made it to the second hand stores much.  We also attended my cousins wedding a week ago this past Sunday.  Yesterday I finally got my parsnips and carrots planted in the garden.  It's been a slow going to get the yard work and gardening done.

Back To The Hoosier

I decided to do my honeypots this time in my Back To The Hoosier series.  Some of the honeypots are new ones I've added to my collection.  There's also some Pyrex throughout the honeypots.

This is a picture of a Dahlia I took at Ferncliff garden on a past visit.

Is one of them guilty?
This Pyrex carafe came to a bad end a couple of weeks ago I went into another room shut a door and heard a crash.  A cat may have been involved in this event.  I found this carafe all over the floor.

This bouquet of flowers is from the wedding I attended a week ago Sunday.  It was a lovely wedding.

I have no idea what dam this is or as usual which relative took it.

Thanks for taking the time to visit.

It's All About The Green

It's March 17th and St. Patrick's day is here, it seems weird since a few weeks ago we had snow here in British Columbia.  I was reading the other day in one of the blogs I follow though I can't remember which one that when you say the luck of the Irish your not meaning good luck but bad luck which is what I've been having at the second hand stores this past week.  I was bidding on a Sherman brooch in green and amber rhinestones which would have fitted in this post but the bidding went over my budget.  So this post is all about the green.

Back To The Hoosier For St. Patrick's Day

The Hoosier is holding green items Pyrex, Fire King, Glass and etc.

Whenever I see these dish towels with different countries names on them I think about people travelling and bringing them back for family and friends.

The Fire King mug  on the top left and right side is the same mug each side has a different saying.
The middle picture is a mid century modern tea set by Arklow made in the Republic of Ireland the pattern is Rhythm by Pat McEtheron.
The horses are made of green plastic and quite well made.

Top Row:
Left to Right
Green Enamel Brooch, Sprite Bottle, Elves
Middle Row:

Bottom Row:
Moss on Brick, Lamp Body Of A Broken Lamp, 3 Small Green Bowls

The first picture is set up to try and look like a parlour.
The green bottle is by McGuinness and Co. Ltd. Made in Canada
The top picture on the right is green buttons my fiancé found at a garage sale.
The bottom picture is a figurine from the house that pops up in pictures around the yard.

Black And White And A Bit Of Blue For Sally

My last two weeks have been quite busy, my mom had knee replacement surgery two weeks ago tomorrow.  My sister and I were lucky my mom's cousin came out and is staying with her which makes it easier for us since we both have to work.  This means we can alternate doing my moms running around.
This post has a lot of black and white items this week with a bit of color.

We were at a local second hand store on Saturday and I came to a dead stop when I saw this old stove.  It's in the stores silent auction it doesn't work it's already priced too high for me then you add in the cost of trying to get it running.  Then you would have to build a kitchen around it way above my price range.  But I really wish I could bring it home with me.

The Hoosier is decked out in a dish set I remember my grandmother having in the 80's.  The pattern is Manitou by Grindley of Staffordshire England.

I've been finding these bar tools on different days at a local second hand store.  I'm guessing they're mid century modern and were made in Japan.

This martini glass fabric is the bit of blue my first thought was the rat pack.

I've posted this Zodiac sign chip and dip bowl set before but I think it fits in with this post so I'm posting it again.

I found this ad for Jasper Park Lodge in an old National Geographic Magazine.  I have not been to Jasper since I was a kid, I remember it was lovely.  One of these days we will point the car towards Alberta and hopefully make it to Jasper.

Thanks for taking the time to stop by.

Goodbye To Summer Hello Fall

It's hard to believe that we're entering Fall and soon another year will come to an end.  I remember as a child waiting for Thanksgiving, Halloween, Remembrance Day and Christmas.  Now this time has arrived and I feel like I just put away the good china from last Christmas dinner.  Don't get me wrong I love this time of the year it's just a year doesn't seem very long the older I get.

I have a new look in the Hoosier I went with a fall theme.  It just felt like it needed a change.

The above collage are a few pieces from my Pyrex collection in Fall colors.

This piece of California pottery I found at a local secondhand store.  I always find these serving dishes great when we have company over.

I found this sister for my 1st mannequin at a garage sale about a month ago.
Both brooches are being worn by the mannequins in the above collage.  Both brooches are unsigned.
