A Week Off & A Road Trip

A lot has happened this past week on Saturday we had a new addition to the family arrive.  My cousin and his wife had a baby boy who I can't wait to go visit since it's been many years since we've had a baby to fuss over.  They decided to wait till the baby was born to find out the sex which I totally supported, I've been looking at some baby stuff now we can shop.

My Finds

The above items are some of my finds in the last few weeks,  The Beatle's lunch kit is a reproduction which I'm sure is the only way I could have afforded it.  The orange pattern vase is made by Poole in England it's the second one I have the first one was a gift from a friend so she started this collection.  The green mugs are also made in England by Biltons.

His Finds For Me

My husband found these Fire King mugs for me at the flea market last week.
Some times he has some great finds it's very rare he has a total miss.
He hit it out of the park with this find.

So this past week I had the week off but the husband only got Tuesday off  so I ended up doing things on my own.  The above pictures are from a new local store here in Abbotsford I love to visit.  All the sellers have great items and ideas as you can see in the above pictures.  If you are ever in Abbotsford I encourage you to visit The Market  and other stores on Montrose  Avenue.

On the one day my husband had off we hit the road and did a road trip within an hour and a half of home the pictures above are from this road trip.  We started off in Chilliwack stopping in at the second hand stores.  Then we went to  Harrison, British Columbia for an ice cream cone and sat on a bench taking in the views.  Our next stop was at the Kilby historic site.  We also stopped in at the Kenmode Wild Berry Wines in Dewdney, British Columbia so I could pick up two bottles of the apple wine they make that I like.

Our last stop before heading home was at the Westminster Abbey In Mission, British Columbia which houses a community of Benedictine monks.
The Abbey was built in 1939 it's official name is the Abbey of Saint Joseph of Westminster.

These pictures are from the husband 's family albums and just made me think of summer.

Blue, Blue And More Blue

I can not believe how many blue items I have found in the last two weeks since my last post.  Everywhere I turned blue was the color I saw and brought home.  It's a good thing blue is one of my favorite colors.  Well I hope you all like the color blue since this post is all about blue.
I found these three pieces of art glass in a day of each other for a price that amazed me and made me very happy.  Two of the pieces are marked Chalet Canada and the other is unsigned.  The piece on the stand that looks like a raindrop has fallen hit the ground and splashed up is one I already have but this one is a bit smaller in size.  Glass has always been something I've collected it started with collecting pieces that washed up on the beach at my grandparents cabin.  And grew from there.

The paperweights are not from my last two weeks of hitting the second hand stores but some more of the ones I received last month.  These are all signed Skookum which are pieces from Robert Held Studio.  I have some other pieces by  him and when on our honeymoon last October we stopped at his studio in Parksville and I picked up two pieces with some of the money we received for wedding gifts.  If you are ever in Parksville on Vancouver Island in British Columbia and like glass I would recommend it as somewhere to stop.

Blue Mountain Pottery is another one of the things I like to collect and was happy to find this piece a few days ago to add to my collection.  This Canadian based company is no longer in business and quite a bit of their product is out there.  I collect pieces I don't see very often which helps me from filling my house up with a lot of pottery.

From The Kitchen

This Pyrex bowl and casserole dish was a nice find in the Colonial Mist pattern.
The blue metal mug holder is one I've never seen before and now holds my blue Fire King mugs.
I picked up three of the plates shown made in England at the Staffordshire Potteries Ltd.
The Canuck mug brings back childhood memories the logo shown on the mug was the uniform logo I remember seeing on their uniforms when honkey night in Canada was on as a kid.  When we were at my mothers parents place when a game was on I was allowed to hear the theme song that was really the only part I liked then I was banned to the kitchen.  I'm guessing this was so I wouldn't nag my grandfather to put on a show I would like.

I collect Celtic jewelry and added this brooch to my collection this past week.  I have one just like this piece with red stones but it's not a brooch but a clip for scarfs to wear around your neck and hold it in place.

This scarf caught my eye and I decided to bring it home.

Do you have songs that all you have to do is hear them and they transport you back to somewhere in your memories. "Crystal Blue Persuasion" when I hear it by Tommy James And The Shondells sends me back to the early 1970's me and my sister were being babysat by the neighbors teenage kids and we spent the day in their backyard surrounded by all their friends who set up a kid's pool for us maybe the song was playing on the radio.

These pictures are from the husband side they are of his grandfathers beach vacations.  You would not believe how many pictures we have of him in bathing suits.  The funny thing is my husband won't even wear a pair of shorts.
Thanks for taking the time to drop by.

Mix Bag Of Stuff

Today I had no idea what I was going to post so truthfully I'm totally winging it.  All I have been doing is sorting, packing and moving furniture.  We have so much to get rid of to get ready.  To light a fire under my butt I called a friend who's a real estate agent to come through our house to tell us what we need to do to get it ready to go on the market  so we can list it in the Spring.  I suggested the beginning of February but she's going to Hawaii then and won't be back till the 12th so thank goodness I get almost 2 more weeks, we will need it.

This bag was a no brainer for me The Union Jack Harrods how much more British can you get.
A lot of the time when I find something British it's a toss up if I keep it or pass it on to my niece  who also collects British items.  This time however I'm keeping this find.

Time Where Are You?

Time is flying by all around me and I'm not keeping up.  I have been letting things slide to get other things done.  I'm hoping to get back on track soon.  I'm lucky if I make it to one second hand store a week these days.  I've decided to start posting every other week from now on.

My fiancé found a Life Magazine from April 20, 1955 yesterday at the flea market and I found this double paged Pyrex ad in it.

My fiancé also found the blue Fire King mugs at the flea market yesterday which I've added to my collection.  On my one trip to the second hand store this past week I found the coffee and tea tins.  The Corning Ware coffee carafe I found quite a few weeks back.

This wedding dress was in a antique mall I thought I would share it with you.

The two girls in this picture are I believe my fiancé's mother and sister.  It looks like it might have been taken on a lovely Spring or Summer day.

Thank you for taking the time to visit.

Warm, Sunny Spring Days And Finds

Warm sunny Spring weather has finally come to the Fraser Valley in British Columbia this past weekend.  We did some wedding stuff which I'll tell you about later and some yard work.

This is my first Corgi model car it's a Mercedes Benz 300 SL it has a few scratches but it fits in my collection nicely. Corgi is a English company and my car was made in Great Britain.

This bowl is Franciscan Ware which was made in California in the United States.  I found it at a second hand store.  I added some brooches to add color and a feeling of Spring.

This paperweight is another addition to my collection.
I saw these Fire King mugs on a cart when they were wheeling it out onto the floor at my favourite second hand store.  I made a beeline for the cart and scooped them up.

I use this cloth holder to hold a pen, a paper pad and papers in my purse so they're easier to find.

Wedding Update:

I'm thinking of doing a hairstyle like the above one if I find the right 50's style dress.
Image was found on Goggle Image.

The last two weekends we have spent doing two gift registries for the wedding. The first store which I'm not going to name was not a great experience thanks to a computer and scanner that did not work very well though one of the clerks was trying to be helpful.  This nightmare took almost 3 hours and by that time we had one page of items.

This past Saturday was a totally different experience.  We went to the  Hudson's Bay the clerk there  was helpful and did the computer part for us and the scanner was easy to use and they had a better selection. If your doing a gift registry I totally recommend them.

The Dahlia's in the above pictures are what they had on the bins  that I got the tubers from.  I'm planting some and others we are handing out to family and friends to grow for the wedding.

Thank you for taking the time to visit.

Elvis And My Great Aunt

On Friday my boyfriend and I headed up to Kamloops, British Columbia we attended my Great Aunts Memorial Service Saturday morning.  It was a sad occasion but you could see and hear so much love for my Aunt around you.  As I listen to peoples memories I was surprised when they collided with my memories.  I also tried to pictured my Aunt and her sister hitchhiking to the nearest garage when their car broke down on their way to Kamloops.  I also found out that one of my cousins had no idea till this past week how big of a Elvis fan she was.  She even managed to have her second child on Elvis' birthday.  And yes of course she made it to Graceland  and she had a great time.  As someone said in their their tribute to my aunt she probably has my uncle running around up there looking for Elvis.  Whenever you got to my Aunt's door there was a warm welcome and before you got past the door you heard "where's my hug".  You know how they say Elvis has left the building, well my Aunt has left the building but she left us with her love for family and friends and many memories.

The above collage is of Elvis items an apron, a card in a picture frame and music C.D.'s, Elvis Purse and Elvis fabric.

We did hit the secondhand stores on Friday when we were in Kamloops when I have the pictures done I'll have them in a upcoming post.

I saw this mug, it reminded me of The Brady Bunch. I could see Carol Brady and Alice using something like this mug when having coffee.

I found this Horizon Blue casserole dish minus the lid at a local secondhand store, I went home and found a lid.  In the background are jadeite and teal Fire King Mugs.

This brown leaf vintage chip and dip bowl I found with two dip bowls and holders. I've added it to my collection.

This Pyrex casserole dish is the first one I've found with a stand.  I don't know what pattern it is if you do feel free to let me know.

Update: Jill who writes the two blogs The Pyrex Collective and A Little Bit of Everything identified the pattern as... Golden Wreath. Thanks Jill.

This is also the first Pyrex ad I've found, you might have noticed the above casserole dish is in the ad.

Summer Is Here

Summer and the heat has arrived here in British Columbia the two don't always go hand in hand in July.  I thought I would post things to do with summer.

These are two of seven barrels I have plants in around the yard.

I've added this red Volkswagen to my collection I have in my home office.

These are new and vintage postcards all have a common theme of being at the beach.

I found this brown and white Fire King mug with flowers at the secondhand store the other day.  I've added it to my collection I now have the two above in this pattern.

I was walking out of the secondhand store and just happened to look back in the window and saw I had missed this paperweight so back in I went.

I found this 1976 Eaton's Spring Summer catalogue at a garage sale.  It was fun to browse through it.

I'm guessing this picture was taken in Sechelt, British Columbia but don't hold me to it I could be totally wrong.

Hot Fun In The Summer Time

End of the spring and here she comes back
Hi, hi, hi, hi, there
Them summer days, those summer days

That's when I had most of my fun back
High, high, high, high here
Them summer days, those summer days

I 'Cloud nine' when I want to
Out of school, yeah
County fair in the country sun
And everything, it's true, ooh, yeah, yeah

Hot fun in the summertime
Hot fun in the summertime
Hot fun in the summertime

Hot fun in the summertime

First of the fall and then she goes back
Bye, bye, bye, bye there
Them summer days, those summer days

'Boop - boop - ba- boop - boop' when I want to
Out of school
County fair in the country sun
And everything, it's cool, ooh,yeah

Hot fun in the summertime
Hot fun in the summertime
Hot fun in the summertime

This post made me think of this song which was recorded by Sly And The Family Stone.
