Past Year New Year

Another year has almost slipped away and in comes 2014 it's a new year to find more great things.  I hope you all have a wonderful new year.

This picture is from the July 1Chatelaine magazine it's called "The Look Of Tomorrow" which was part of the souvenir centennial issue.
She looks like she's ready to hit a new years eve party.

I found this model of a (1954) Mercedes Benz 300 SL at a second hand store it looks like a car the woman in the above picture would drive to a new years eve party.
This was bought as a Christmas gift.

Some of the above pictures I have posted before but I felt they would work in this old vehicle collage I wanted to do.

I saw this cloche terrarium when we went to a Christmas market at the end of November. I hope to make something like it in the new year.

The above idea might mean I can have a plant in my front room that her highness in the above picture and her sister won't be able to get to.

This blue tin was a nice addition to my collection.

A couple of weeks back we met up with my cousin and his fiancé who also are getting married this coming year who like second hand stores to.  We were in Milner in Langley, British Columbia at a second hand store and I took this picture of this heritage church which was across the street.

This is a look back at some of the paperweights in my collection I posted in past post.

Thank you for taking the time to visit.

Christmas, Snow Pictures And Some Finds

It's hard to believe that tomorrow night is Christmas Eve.  My family has its Christmas gathering on Christmas Eve and this year my cousin and his fiancé are hosting the dinner. This past Friday we had snow falling, giving us more of a Christmas feel.

We went for a drive on Friday and I got these snow pictures down the road from our place.

This is an old schoolhouse down the road from our place which is a heritage building which we've booked for our wedding and reception.

This one Pyrex bowl is my only Christmas pattern piece in my collection.  We don't find many Christmas pattern pieces in our travels. This is called the Golden Leaf pattern.

This shelf in my Hoosier has some vintage family ornaments and some Coca - Cola ornaments from my dads collection.

I had to take one shelf of paperweights out of my cabinet.  This is a small group of them.

The fiancé likes to fish so when I saw these fish napkins I brought them home washed and ironed them and wrapped two of his gifts in them.

This picture of my mother would have been taken in the early 1950's.

I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas and the happiest New Year.
Thanks for visiting.

English Moments And Christmas Finds

As Christmas gets closer I am slowly getting ready and I mean slowly. I haven't had much time to hit the the second hand store. I hate to say it but very little Christmas decorating has happened around here.  It's a good thing my cousin is having the dinner this year.  We've been so busy this past month and not home on the weekends.

I was at a small store and one of the trees they had decorated is the one above it has a Dalton Abby theme.  Pictures of the women of the house in white frames, teacups and beads were use to decorated it.

Every Christmas I try to catch the Queen's Christmas message it's become a tradition for me that I enjoy.  I found the above picture of Queen Elizabeth 2nd in 1952 when she made her first Christmas broadcast.  I'm not sure when she began doing her Christmas message on television.  I found the above picture in a book called Princess to Queen by Catrine Clay published by BBC Books copywrite 1996 the picture is on page 177.

This kale plant sits in a container at my front door I get this type of plant every Christmas.  The raindrops give it a chilly look.

From The Family Collection:

I know some of the people in this picture are some of the family in England at Christmas time I'm guessing it could have been taken in the 1950's or early 1960's.

This small angel I found at my favorite second hand store and went through a lot to get her.  Two older ladies with walkers decided everyone in the store could just get out of their way.  We cross paths a few times.  Then two other older ladies (no walkers involved) butted in line while I stood where the sign says to line up.  A bit of a trying moment.

I found these three vintage Christmas cards in some of my mom's Christmas card boxes.

I found this snowflake cookie cutter last year which I have hanging in my kitchen window year round.

I call this picture dancing lights it's the Christmas lights in someones yard.

Thank you for Visiting.

Christmas Blues

This post is all about the color blue.
I hope everyone likes the color blue or this post could make you feel blue.

These are some pictures that have a Christmas look to them.

This is a shelf in my Hoosier with some winter looking Pyrex and some kneehugger elves.  The split serving Pyrex dishes are in the snowflake pattern.

I found this lovely blue velvet gown at a local second hand store.
Both brooches are unsigned pieces I've added to my collection.

These finds are of mid modern glasses, a double sided pouring gravy bowl and blue glass canning jars all are second hand store finds.

The abstract picture was one of those surprise pictures that I got taking another shot.  I liked how it turned out so I decided to add it into this post.
The Christmas Blues
The jingle bells are jingling
The streets are white with snow
The happy crowds are mingling
But there's no one that I know

I'm sure that you'll forgive me
If I don't enthuse
I guess I've got the Christmas blues
I've done my window shopping
There's not a store I've missed
But what's the use of stopping
When there's no one on your list
You'll know the way I'm feeling
When you love and you lose
I guess I've got the Christmas blues
When somebody wants you
Somebody needs you
Christmas is a joy of joy
But friends, when you're lonely
You'll find that it's only
A thing for little girls and little boys
May all your days be merry
Your seasons full of cheer
But till it's January
I'll just go and disappear
Old Santa may have brought you
Some stars for your shoes
But Santa only brought me the blues
Those brightly packaged
Tinsel covered Christmas blues

Can't you hear Dean Martin singing this song
or Matt Dusk for an updated version.

Thank you for visiting.
I hope your not feeling blue in a bad way.

Christmas Memories And Trees

I have so many great memories from my childhood about Christmas.  Some of the following pictures are of past memories with a few finds thrown in.

Top Row:

The 1st picture is of a folding Christmas tree and the mannequin in a Christmas apron I found at my favorite second hand store.
The 2nd picture is of Jell-O molds I would pick up when I found them to make this tree I have in my kitchen this year for Christmas.
The 3rd picture is one I took at a plant store that was holding a Christmas market this year,
Bottom Row:
The 4th picture is a cardholder I found at a second hand store that I decorated with my brooches.
The 5th picture is a ceramic Christmas tree yet again a second hand store find which had all it's parts.
The 6th picture is a metal cone tree with Christmas ornaments in it.

My dad would go from Christmas tree lot to Christmas tree lot looking for the best tree around Vancouver when I was young.  He did this till the mid 1970's then my mom got a fake tree with green lights, red thread ball ornaments and thick white garland.  No lovely smelling tree, no color lights, no colorful ornaments or lots of silver tinsel.  What was she thinking.  My dad went along with it but I think he would have gladly gotten in the car and gone looking for the tree.

I hope you find some of these memories interesting.
