Happy New Year And A Look At Glass

All the best to you and yours in the coming New Year.

I found this piece at the secondhand store.  It looks like ones I've seen at Home Depot though I don't know what to call it.  It also reminded me of a clock my grandmother had on her wall when I was growing up.  My mom says that clock was from the 1960's.

The above pictures of glass I found at the secondhand stores These pieces have no markings, I'm not sure if it would be considered art glass.

The above glass vases are flea market finds.

This signed paperweight was made by Selkirk Glass in Scotland, their paperweights are one of a kind as they are all handblown.  It was started by Peter Homes and Ron Hutchison in 1977.  Their paperweights can be found in museums around the world.

From The Family Collection

This beautiful old hall is in the community I grew up in.  It was built in 1919 and was built by Swedish immigrants. Inside they have beautiful murals, I believe they were scenes of them building the hall.  It's been so many years since I've  been in the hall so I don't know if the murals are still there.

Wishing You A Merry Christmas

From The Family Collection

We Wish You A Merry Christmas
We wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a Merry Christmas,
And a Happy New Year!
Good tidings to you wherever you are;
Good tidings for Christmas
And a Happy New Year!

I found the above picture in my dad's cousin's collection.  I believe this is from an aunt in England on the back it says from a Dicken's film.  I'm using it because it reminds me of carollers.

The first picture is of elves I've found at a second hand stores.
The small snowmen I got from a family member.
The last picture has a bigger elf I got from my grandmothers collection and I remember from childhood the other elf's and Santa's I got from second hand stores.

The carollers I picked up at the second hand store and the green feather trees at a garage sale.

I found the Peace and Noel words at the dollar store.

Deck The Halls
Deck the halls with boughs of holly,
Fa la la la la, la la la la,
Tis the season to be jolly,
Don we now our gay apparel,
Toll the ancient Yuletide carol.
Fast away the old year passes,
Hail the new, ye lads and lasses,
Sing we joyous altogether,
Headless of wind and weather.

The wreath in the picture above made me think of the above song.

With this last week leading up to the Christmas week I hope it's a calm and enjoyable time for you I'm hoping for this miracle but mine usually plays out like National Lampoons Christmas if you seen the movie I think you get the picture.

Christmas Time Is Here In Pink

Christmas Time Is Here
Christmas time is here
Happiness and cheer
Fun for all that Children call
Their favorite time of the year
Snowflakes in the air
Carols everywhere
Olden times and ancient rhymes
Of love and dreams to share
Sleigh bells in the air
Beauty everywhere
Yuletide by the fireside
And joyful memories there
Christmas time is here
We'll be drawing near
Oh, that we could always see
Such spirit through the year
Oh, that we could always see
Such spirit through the year...

As you can see I have a pink theme going on.  I saw these items and decided I should add them to my collection.

I found this paper Charlie Brown centrepiece made by Hallmark at the second hand store.  How can you not like Charlie Brown and Snoppy.

The stocking just caught my eye I found it at a second hand store.
I collect vintage ornaments so I had to add the one in the middle of the collage to my collection.

This vintage pink pine cone ornament was found at a Christmas market , it almost didn't make this blog at the last moment I remembered it.

Pyrex: A Favorite Thing

I've just recently added pink Pyrex to my collection it's taken me awhile to find pieces I could afford.
Top: medium & small Pyrex refrigerator dishes it's the gooseberry pattern.
Middle: This is an early Christmas gift from a friend it's a solid large pink Pyrex refrigerator dish.
Bottom: Pink Daisy Pyrex baking dish.

These Kale plants are outside my front door and add the look of flowers and color for winter.  The first picture reminds me of a rose.

From The Family Collection

The pictures of Santa Claus and the reindeer are from the 1960's and are part of my early childhood from when we would visit my uncle's place at Christmas.  I have the sled and reindeer, they are in need of some minor work.

My Favorite Things

My Favorite Things

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things

Cream colored ponies and crisp apple streudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into Springs
These are a few of my favorite things

When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad

Lyrics by Richard Rodgers
Music by Oscar Hammerstein

The above picture I believe is an Inn that I took over a decade ago in Leavenworth, Washington in the United States.  It made me think of the song My Favorite Things.  It's a wonderful place to visit at Christmas time.

These vintage ornaments I can remember seeing at my grandparents place since I was small.  I now have them out at Christmas in my home.

Bubble lights are also something she always had up at Christmas.  The first picture with different color ones are my cousins the other ones are mine.

I was going through boxes in the basement and I found a box of costume jewelry that belonged to my boyfriends mom.  This brooch is one of the pieces.

These are some unsigned pieces of costume jewelry I have in my collection.

Thank you Brenda of Cozy Little House for your Welcome Wagon Friday visit to my blog. A wonderful surprise.

Christmas Is Coming

" Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat
Please do put a penny in the old man's hat
If you haven't got a penny, a ha'penny will do
If you haven't got a ha'penny, then God bless you."

We're starting to get ready for Christmas; today we've almost finished putting up our outdoor lights.  The following pictures are things I've picked up for decorating.

This is a simple look for Christmas I collect birds for on wreaths and garlands.

I collect vintage ornaments for my tree these are some I've found to add to my collection.

These Pyrex nesting bowls are a great look for Christmas.
They can be like my kitchen Christmas tree.

Where Has The Time Gone

Where did my weekend go, time is coming up short these days for getting things finished.  I know things now will be really busy till after Christmas.

This paperweight is actually clear glass but I thought it looked great with blue foil behind it.  The snowflake on it said buy me.

The first brooch is unsigned but caught my eye the green beads stand out well.
The vintage purse is totally me can't wait to use it when someone takes me out for dinner.
The last brooch is signed, we think it says Coro.

This jar is made by Pyrex it says The Cracker Barrel on it.  I was surprise when I saw it was made by Pyrex.

I also found this Pyrex bowl the pattern is Town and Country.

The white cabinet above I noticed last year and I've told my boyfriend it's a cabinet I want for the house.  I still haven't managed to get it.  So every once in awhile I visit it at the store.

The pictures above are some vintage items that are in the store I realized after I left that I had taken mostly pictures of their Christmas stock.

The above collage is of my finds at the store in the past few weeks.
I collect vintage Christmas ornaments and picked this one up at the store.
A small Pyrex refrigerator dish which is white with the pink Gooseberry pattern and the medium dish is the bottom one which looks white the pattern is on each end.
A Frosty Day is a Little Golden Book By Andrea Posner.  I know two little ones who may like this book .

Remembrance Day Canada November 11th 2012

The following information is about things to do with Remembrance Day.  Some co-workers were nice enough to share some of their family stories of those who served.  In my family neither of my grandfathers served some of my uncles did as far as I know they did make it home.

To those who served and didn't make it home Thank You.

Flying officer Frederick John Manning was a navigator in the R.C.A.F. in World War Two.  He served for three years and after March 28th 1945 was reported missing somewhere overseas in Germany.  His family finally received a letter on June 19th 1952 officially listing him as dead with no known grave.  His name is listed on the memorial at Runnymede, England.

To those who served and made it home Thank You.

The helmet shown above was worn by Private Roy Arnold Gilpin during World War One he was in the battle at Vimy Ridge.  He's the one pictured sitting down the other soldier I have no information on standing next to him.  Private Syden Elvin Burrows pictured with a cane had a leg injury he received during the war.  Both men made it back home after serving their country.

To those who are serving today Thank You.  And may you all make it home safe.

This R.C.A.F. uniform is a 1956 uniform found in an antique store.

The R.C.A.F. hat was found at a local flea market.  The naval hat was found at a local second hand store.

The two above plates are part of the Canada Remembers series by David Craig.
" We Stand On Guard" is the plate with men on it.
" With Glowing Hearts" is the plate with women on it.

An Irish Airman Foresees His Death

I know that I shall meet my fate
Somewhere among the clouds above;
Those that I fight I do not hate,
Those that I guard I do not love;
My country Kiltartan's cross,
My countrymen Kiltartan's poor,
No likely end could bring them loss
Or leave them happier than before.
Nor law, nor duty bade me fight,
Nor public men, nor cheering crowds,
A lonely impulse of delight
Drove to this tumult in the clouds;
I balanced all, brought all to mind,
The years to come seemed waste of breath,
A waste of breath the years behind
In balance with this life, this death.
                                       W.B. Yeats

Happy Halloween

I hope everyone has a great Halloween.

This clock has been in my family for some time I'm not sure if it's been passed down in the family or my dad found it in his travels.  Its a favorite of mind. The following is the information on the clock face:
Henry Birks And Sons. Ltd.
Seth Thomas
Made in the U.S.A.

These pictures in the collage are from a few years ago from my last Halloween party.  Most of my stuff is gone a friend's son and daughter-in-law do a big Halloween thing and are putting it to good use.

Halloween is about candy so I thought this Life Saver ad from the National Geographic Magazine would fit the Halloween theme.

This olive green Pyrex casserole dish is the Verde pattern.

This small Pyrex bowl is the Butterfly Gold pattern.

This bright green round Pyrex casserole dish is missing it's lid and not in perfect condition.  I've seen this dish a few times but it's always been in rough shape so I decided to get this one.
